Awards

 

  • The Alberta Aboriginal Youth Achievement Awards provides an opportunity to recognize the achievements of Aboriginal youth and share their successes with others from across the Province. There are eight categories and two Aboriginal youth will be selected from each.
  • The "Lead Your Way" National Aboriginal Role Model Program celebrates the accomplishments of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Youth aged 13 to 30. "Lead Your Way" inspires Aboriginal youth to strive to reach their goals.
  • The Nellie Carlson Aboriginal Youth Award is meant to recognize the achievements and successes of Aboriginal youth in grades eight (8) to ten (10) who have shown commendable improvement in any of the areas below, and who may have overcome adversity in order to do so.
  • ConocoPhillips Canada presents awards annually to Aboriginal students who demonstrate hard work and dedication in pursuit of higher learning. Efforts can include upgrading their secondary education or entering a post-secondary program. Awards are granted on a yearly basis and may be used to cover portions of tuition, books or living expenses.  Click here for more information

Red Sky Workshops - theatre, music & dance
Red Sky offers lively and instructional workshops that introduce children, youth and adults to the world of theatre, dance and music.  Each workshop is an hour in length, based on the content and style of the play, and responsive to the interests of the participants. The workshops are participatory and intended to get people on their feet and having fun with movement, voice and music while introducing elements of First Nations culture.

Raven Stole the Sun is based on the Tlinglit legend, is a very captivating performance which includes music, dance and narrative. The show is ideal for grades K-6 but is also suitable for junior high. It is a 45 minute show and a Q & A can happen after if the school chooses.

Keyano College Native Child Program
The Aboriginal Child and Family Services program addresses the concerns of First Nations, Metis and Urban Natives as they respond to the redesign of Family and Social Services for children and families as well as the move by First Nations People to provide local control for social programs. All courses will emphasize the influence which family, education, health and culture have on child development. The curriculum will be culturally relevant with practical solutions for meeting the needs for qualified child and family services employees.
