To improve and enhance the educational experience of Aboriginal students, families and staff within Edmonton Public Schools.


Our Guiding Principles
  • having the Aboriginal perspective guide educational planning and program delivery;
  • understanding, accepting, validating, recognizing, and implementing the Aboriginal way of knowing, learning and doing;
  • drawing on the strengths of Aboriginal peoples.

District Goals

  • increase Aboriginal representation at all levels of Education (Elder Consultation);
  • understand and utilize Aboriginal protocol at all levels;
  • increase Post Secondary opportunities for Aboriginal students;
  • increase the number of Aboriginal student leaders;
  • identify culturally sensitive assessment practices resulting in more accurate and decreased coding of Aboriginal students;
  • create opportunities for Aboriginal parental involvement at various levels within Edmonton Public Schools.

Enbridge Indigenous Language Leadership Award - For a second year,  Enbridge is offering awards of $2500 to support students at the CILLDI Summer School. These awards are available to members of communities in the Treaty 6, 7 and 8 areas. Preference will be given to applicants with a Bachelor of Education degree and who are working in the area of Indigenous languages education. Click here for more information

ConocoPhillips Canada presents awards annually to Aboriginal students who demonstrate hard work and dedication in pursuit of higher learning. Efforts can include upgrading their secondary education or entering a post-secondary program. The Canadian Cadet Organization is the largest federally funded youth organization in Canada. With a population of more than 50,000 from coast to coast to coast, and funding for 70,000- we want to offer this free program to more Aboriginal Youth. Click here for more information

Trade Winds to Success Training Society – Putting Aboriginal People to Work in the Trades.  This 18 week Aboriginal pre-apprenticeship training program will provide the skills and knowledge to start a career in several trades. A local non-profit organization, iHuman provides youth arts programming to teens aged 12 to 24 in Edmonton. Through iHuman and the arts, Edmonton youth are able to find their own identity, become more empowered, and create their own compelling futures.  Click here for more information

Off the Hook Group Music Making Workshops are facilitated by Sarah Pocklington and Ed Mann.  Drumming, vocal expression, beats, electronic sound, dancing, playing and listening all come together in a creative and fun group experience.  Participants engage in the process of creative experimentation and learn to improvise with sound and music.
